    VAIN - www.vain.com

From very cheap to very expensive cuts. Everyone I've talked to who has been there raves about it, and I love it there. Downtown and Ballard salons.

Zero Zero is my favorite. They have good style, you can go moderate or mod, it's up to you. But they have really good advice and ideas, especially if you have something to go from. And they're not horrifically expensive. Cuts average $30ish. Henry is awesome.

Try Vain. It's a hair salon downtown on 2nd (maybe 1st?) avenue. They also have one in Ballard. Anyway, everyone there seems really capable. I go see Carly at the downtown location and she rocks. I come in with a vague idea of what I want and then let her do whatever she wants off of that and I have never been disappointed. Let her know what you like and what you want, even if that's just what it says in your question: "I want a good, stylish haircut but am fashion-impaired and have no idea what to get" and then let her give you her ideas. I highly recommend it.

I wouldn't necessarily say "reliable" - but the Aveda Institute on Cap Hill is damn cheap and at least the instructor checks up on the students to make sure they don't fuck you up too much.
