• If you are enjoying the music, there are some great a Capella groups out there. The group that sounds the most like the show is M-Pact. • I've also been watching it on Hulu. The premiere was obviously the best episode, and it's been hit or miss since. I was in the advanced choir for the last two years of high school. I avoided joining choir as the general choir was a pre-req for the advanced and the general choir was kinda loser-ville, but my voice teacher insisted that I get some choir practice. The advanced choir changed formats the year I joined... the year before they were Madrigals, when I joined up the name changed to "Vocal Motion." Choir was approximately nothing like Glee. We had to actually practice, there was no baby drama, and most of our members were average looks-wise. The coolest song we practiced was a Medley from Chess... "One night in Bangkok" and all that. We never just randomly broke out in song and sounded good. We didn't have a band, and no processed vocals either. We weren't anywhere other than ignored on the popularity hierarchy. In my choirs we were lucky to find people who could carry a tune, being in choir did lower your overall status level (although there were some cheerleaders and other popular people in the choir), we also had to practice and practice, we sang crappy songs, there was no dancing or costumes (we had one horrible outfit for performances), we were lucky if the jazz choir could find a drummer and bassist, there was some social drama probably, no processed vocals, most of the kids were white (not like the carefully benneton-ized group like in glee), etc. etc. Still, "Glee" has some aspect of the weirdness of choir about it...glamorized for Hollywood of course, but it is nice to have a show about choir on TV!!!
