How can I inexpensively mount an enormous poster?

I have a poster that is about 4 ft by 6 ft, and isn't worth that much, but I'd rather not just stick it up on the wall. Getting a proper frame would be way too expensive. Kinko's wants $120 to mount it on foamboard. I was thinking of buying some foamboard and doing it myself but I don't know where I can find a sheet that big. Can anyone recommend an art supply shop that might be able to help? Or other ideas? I live in Fremont.

You can find what you need at the art supply shop in the U District -- http://www.yelp.com/biz/artist-and-craftsman-supply-seattle.

That said, you'll have a beast of a time getting your foamboard home unless you have a car big enough to hold the sheet.

Otherwise, one of my favorite tricks is to take a couple of binder clips, attach them at the top of the poster, and then hang the clips on pushpins or even a small picture nail. See here: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/look/look-binder-clips-used-for-hanging-art-043615

$120 for foam board? That's crazy. You can get the foam board at Utrecht on Pike across from six arms. The foam thing is a little lame though, I like Myrna's idea of the clips much better personally.

Also on Pike and Broadway there is a frame it yourself store that has some great deals. I bet you could find a ready made frame for not that much.

4x6' is pretty large, which may be why you're getting the high quote for the foam core. An alternative is a product called "Gatorboard". It's similar to foam core but has resin impregnated laminate on both sides. It is really, really tough and resistant to crushing and corner dings. Also, you can get it in solid black which is nice for mounting art.

I'll also share my framing secret: you can find large frames at thrift stores. They think they are selling the art, so the price is typically $20 or less. The key is to get one with glass or the cost of replacing the glass will eat up your savings. They often need a little cosmetic TLC, but you can get a frame that would retail in a frame shop for a couple hundred bucks for a 20 spot or so. But stay out of Burien! That's my hunting grounds for frames.

It's amazing how thoroughly a proper frame turns even a shitty poster into a proper work of art. Sure, it's expensive, but it's worth it. Not foamboard, though; a poster on foamboard looks cheesy the instant any of the corners gets even the tiniest little donk.
