Any good recommendations for nice restaurants in NYC that have a few vegan options?

I would like to take my vegan friend out to dinner with me when I visit New York next weekend, but I want to go to a nice omnivorous restaurant. By nice I mean not too cheap, not too expensive, somewhere you'd go before maybe seeing a show, not necessarily a special occasion, similar perhaps to a Tom Douglas joint.

Is there a reason you want to go to an omni restaurant? You can actually go to a nice vegan place--it won't hurt you to eat one vegan meal during your trip, and NYC has some amazing veg places.

Along the lines of what you're looking for, upscale but not too expensive, I would recommend:
*Candle Cafe--they have two locations, one a few blocks east of Central Park.
*Counter, in the East Village, is good.
*Blossom, I think they have two locations now.

Avoid Angelika's (sp?) Kitchen by all costs. They're bland, gross and serve nearly exclusively hippie food, but they've been around for a long time.

Sorry, can't help with the omni restaurants, I only know the vegan places. I've been to the three above that I mentioned, and they're all really good.
